Bid Days, big sisters, 2 a.m. study sessions and weddings decades later — in their own words.

I chose Lumen Rose because I wanted to find a group of women who made it feel like I wasn’t so far from home. Moving across the country for school terrified me — but on the first night of recruitment, a senior from my hometown sat with me for an hour and told me everything would be okay. They made my college experience feel like family from the very start, and three years later those same women stood beside me at my white-coat ceremony.

When I went through primary recruitment, I was so nervous because I had no idea what to expect. Bid Day was one of the best days ever because I ran home to a chapter that had cheered my name like they’d known me for years. My big sister stayed up with me before every organic-chemistry exam, and now — as a junior — I get to do the same for my own littles. That full-circle feeling is everything.

When I joined Lumen Rose I hoped to find good friends for my college years. What I got instead: sisters for life. Lumen Rose brought me my roommates, my bridesmaids and the women who flew across the country when my mom was ill. People ask what dues buy — I tell them it bought me a family I never have to give back.

As an out-of-state engineering student, I worried I’d never fit the sorority picture in my head. Then I met a chapter full of women in lab goggles and hiking boots who recruited me between classes. My sisters proofread my internship applications, taught me to sail and reminded me — loudly, at 6 a.m. — that I could finish my senior project. I did, with honors.
